Building websites has gone from a technical service to one that serves to solve well-defined business problems. Gone are the days when everyone had to have a website only because it was expected. Today customers pay for a reason and for end results. Problem is, most web shops keep selling technical solutions to match feature-oriented requirements, never taking results or business goals, into consideration. As a result, shops are relegated to being specialist subcontractors and it results in projects rarely generating the kind of impact that is expected. The shift to focusing on results is necessary to beat this trend of failed expectations. Turning from "to the letter requirements"-driven web development to result-only web investments generating tangible benefits may seem like a big leap, but brings advantages to both buyers and sellers. It fosters a culture of unified teamwork across all parties and takes away many of the causes for seller–buyer distrust. In this talk I will show you how to take the step from focusing on fulfilling irrelevant requirements to talking results with your customers and increasing your customer satisfaction and team happiness at the same time.]]>

This is a rerun of a session Shannon and I did in Munich in August of 2012. It's the development of my highly popular sessions on project estimation where I demonstrated a method to size even complex fixed scope projects and come up with realistic estimates even when there's little information. In this session, we will take a broader look at estimation and the role it plays in Drupal project management. We will look at several cases, discuss how to mitigate and classify risk and introduce several methods for making estimates.]]>

Session presented at the Drupal Business Days in Vienna on May 4th 2012. Description: "The market for Drupal services is maturing, and so must our offers. In order to stay relevant and be competitive as more enterprise customers enter the market, Drupal shops need to shift focus to delivering business value, and not just code. In this session I will talk about how NodeOne's offer centering around business value, rather than just "sites done to spec", has changed how we work and whom we work with. How much more fun we have now. And how you can do the same."]]>

Session held at DrupalCon Munich on Aug 23rd 2012, session description: "As a UX professional you've probably found yourself forced to argue for the importance of UX in a project. You've probably heard people say that UX is of little importance. And as a designer it's not always easy to explain why UX matters. But UX needs to be justified. And it's your job to do so. In this session I will present ways to convince even project managers from hell about the value of UX."]]>

A ten minute lightning talk I held at SSES' (Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship) Startup Day conference on 9 April 2011, at Debaser Medis, in Stockholm, Sweden. The topic of the talk was how you can be a successful company by being "good", or as I made the case, embodying the values and principles of open source. At NodeOne we do not just work with open source but also make it part of who we are and actively share what we do, embrace openness and train and educate. This has turned out to be winning recipe and we consider it a major reason to why we in November 2011 were awarded the Super Gazelle Prize of 2011, showing a whopping 3346% growth in just three years.]]>
