Our position on the Respite Center at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah /slideshow/mpna-position-respitecenterfinal-44050173/44050173 mpnapositionrespitecenterfinal-150129162825-conversion-gate02
The McGolrick Park Neighborhood Alliance (MPNA) wants to clarify our organizations position on the Respite Center at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah. In December we helped to promote a community forum at the Church where local residents could discuss the challenges of homelessness in our part of Greenpoint and particularly McGolrick Park, and learn about the Respite Center that the Church was beginning to explore. Some local residents have since questioned whether we were actively pushing for the Respite Center and we want to clarify our position. As an organization we are taking a neutral position, meaning that we are not officially in favor of it nor are we officially opposed to it. Some of the members of our steering committee are very much in favor of the center and some are very much opposed. Given that we are divided as a group on this issue, we are focusing our energies on other areas where we align. We want to make clear that we are not working to support or oppose the Respite Center. In the months and years ahead, we will continue to focus our energies on improving the Park and the surrounding neighborhood, building on the numerous successes we achieved over the past year.]]>

This coming Thursday November 20th and Saturday November 22nd, the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund (GCEF) is holding a community preferencing referendum for the public to vote on 13 Large or Legacy projects that GCEF is considering funding out of the $19.5 million fund established to redress pollution from the underground ExxonMobil Greenpoint oil spill in the eastern part of Greenpoint, not far from McGolrick Park. The communitys votes will count substantially towards the final decisions by GCEF on what they will fund and we want to encourage you to vote for projects that will benefit the area historically most impacted by the spill.]]>

McGolrick Park Neighborhood Alliance Thanks Area Elected/Public Officials for $1.3 Million to Rehabilitate McGolrick Park Playground in Greenpoint and Then Plants 1,000 Daffodils /slideshow/mc-golrickpressreleasefinal/40497336 mcgolrickpressreleasefinal-141020110859-conversion-gate02
McGolrick Park Neighborhood Alliance (MPNA), local residents and businesses who seek improvements at the historic 10 acre Msgr. McGolrick Park in Greenpoint, have reason to celebrate. MPNA will hold a 10:00 AM celebration on Saturday, October 18, 2014 to present certificates to local officials who have appropriated $1.3 million to build a new playground in the park. Area parents have been pleading for playground renovations in recent years. This incentivized MPNA to campaign for renovation and improvement over the past year. Following the October 18 ceremony, members of MPNA, area residents and officials will plant daffodil bulbs in the gardens as part of Its My Park Day, which will bloom in the spring and for many springs thereafter.]]>
