My term project report for my Applied Optimization course. I proposed to examine the application of Lagrangian Relaxation and Danzig-Wolfe Decomposition techniques to the Generalized Assignment Problem. I both presented the formulations and compared the different methods in terms of the solve time metric for cases of varying complexity. The Generalized Assignment Problem is a mixed-integer problem and a superset of the Scheduling Problem.]]>

Fuzzy Logic Fossil Classification System /slideshow/fuzzy-logic-fossil-classification-system/2433192 fuzzylogicfossilclassificationsystem-12574585042553-phpapp02
Term project for my Intelligent Systems Design course. I proposed applying Fuzzy Logic design principles in order to create an intelligent system that could be used to classify fossils according to a dynamically-updating biological "Tree of Life". Classification of a data set can be influenced by a user-controlled parameter that reflects whether a "splitter" or "lumper" view of anthropological taxonomy is desired. The fundamental concepts outlined in this proposed system could have applications in analagous fields where taxonomies are continuously developed based on newly acquired system data. Theoretically one could incorporate this system into a neural network framework for added learning and intelligence capabilities.]]>

This is a presentation I gave for my Discrete Event Simulation class. Our job was to critique a professionally published paper in the operations research literature. As the first slide outlines, the underlying technical theory is the work of the authors Mufit Ozden and Yu-Chi Ho as published in the European Journal of Operational Research 146 (2003) pp 35-51, whereas the critique analysis is entirely my own work.]]>
