What a difference a second makes a quote from an empowered employee. Just one second over a ten second continuous cycle can mean your line runs consistently 10% faster, the difference between comfortably achieving tight production schedules or continually being capacity constrained.[1] This work presents a new approach for the reduction of process cycle time and its impact on a company's competitive edge. Reduction in cycle time has been gaining significant attention in recent times. The shorter cycle times effect in higher consumer satisfaction, lower manufacturing rate, higher yield, and better potential given tool inventory and facility constraints. This research paper provides a brief review of core approaches related to cycle time and also describes a methodology for cycle time reduction in any manufacturing and automobile production industry. It includes the assessment and potential gains of the projected cycle time reduction methodology]]>

In normal circumstances, due to incomplete combustion, 30% of the fuel remains unburnt and is emitted in the form of black smoke, causing air pollution. Moreover, the carbon originating from incomplete fuel combustions, settles on the spark plug and on the engine piston, thus diminishing the compression capacity of the piston and increasing the friction factor. This rate of carbon deposition increases especially in city driving, as the engine works much of the time at part throttle. Excess carbon decreases the compression ratio of the engine which ultimately robs the engine of its power, due to acute knocking or detonation. The above problem can be reduced to some extent by making use of paramagnetic property of oxygen present in the incoming air i.e. by passing the air through external magnetic field]]>

In this study, the failure of impact socket has been selected as investigation topic in Minar hydrosystems private limited, Nagpur. It essentially focuses on stress analysis. Minar Hydrosystems Private Limited is leading manufacturing and supplier of hydraulic tools. Impact socket is a tool designed to exert a torque on a fastener to achieve proper tightening or loosening of a connection. The problem identified here is the failure of male hex end of impact socket. Some of the impact socket observed wear of corners of male hex. The impact socket failed due to torsional loading which causes for shear failure. The analysis has been carried out for static loading. Finite element analysis revealed that the stresses acting at failure region are exceeding the yield stress value. A 3D modeling software Cero 1.0 is used to prepare a CAD model of impact socket and evaluate the results in the form of stresses by applying calculated loads in the finite element analysis software ANSYS 12.0. ]]>

Designing an appropriate gating/risering system, some defects can be minimized such as cracks, distortion, shrinkage porosity, warpage, sink, and shrinkage cavity by simulating the directional solidification using casting software. In this study, the component from industry i.e. manhole cover is leading to premature failure of warpage or distortion. Hence, there is requirement of optimizing the appropriate gating/risering system. In this paper, the actual gating/risering system is simulated to minimize the warpage defect occurring in the industry while manufacturing. In mechanical industry, design process requires more time because it is iterative process and requires experienced people. We know that there are many CAD packages available in the market for design which demands modeling skills. It has been observed that many research efforts have been made in the area of design automation like integration of different CAD software like Creo Parametric, CATIA, SolidWorks with different computer programming languages like Visual Basic, Java, C++.But it is observed that Visual Basic is having some advantages over others like it will give us best frame work for product design input base as well as it can be easily interface with intermediate software like MS-excel which provides an input to other modeling or analysis software and among all available parametric modeling software Creo is widely used in industries. During the literature review, it is observed that integration of GUI or tailor made software development using a computer programming language with modeling software is done till now but further integration with analysis software is not done yet. Simulation of CI Engine is added in developed GUI which gives results of pressure, temperature, volume at each crank angle of crankshaft in the form of graphs and maximum value of pressure and temperature got are being used for structural and thermal analysis of major components.

In this paper, micro-structural, mechanical and tribological behaviors of roll materials i.e. high speed steel (HSS), high chromium iron (HiCr), indefinite chill irons (IC) and other have been reviewed. The technological process of the rolling consists of many factors that influencing the fatigue life of rolls like rolling temperature, roll groove design, rolling speed and turning due to wearing. These parameters are analyzed to advance maximum fatigue life of the rolls as well as to shrink overall energy consumption, increase production and decrease overall costs. Finite element analysis of adamite roll is carried out by applying process parameters and variables at high temperature those are responsible for roll wear. According to appropriate chemical properties, microstructure and mechanical property some new wearresistant roll grades for conventional hot rolling process is suggested. ]]>

In automobile industry, the vibrations generated in the IC engine affects the performance of the vehicle and quality of comfort while riding the vehicle. The factors which are affected under continuous vibration of IC engine are drivability, stability and comfort. All these factors are reducing while there is an increase in vibrations produced by the engine. Reciprocating as well as rotating parts of the engine are producing vibrations continuously in the internal combustion engine. The inertial forces are produced by these reciprocating and rotating parts. These inertial forces are changing with compression and combustion characteristics inside the engine. The vibrations produced by the engine can be minimized by reducing those unbalanced forces generated during its functioning, otherwise anti vibration mounts are placed in between engine and its base. Many researchers have performed experimentations to see reasons behind the vibration generations also to reduce vibrations at interface between engine and its base. In this paper a thorough collection of data related to engine vibrations is made to provide a platform for future work. It encompasses various work carried on engine rigid body modeling. The paper is framed as engine rigid body modeling, engine vibrations in detail and at last some experimental work performed on a single cylinder diesel engine to measure vibrations using FFT spectrum analyzer. ]]>

This paper deals with the failure analysis and redesign of shaft of overhead crane having capacity 25 tonne. There is problem of failure of the shaft in gear box which is mounted on the crane. The shaft breakage occurred due to dynamic, alternating low tensile compressive stresses and simultaneous torsional load. An overhead crane is mechanical equipment for lifting and lowering a load and moving it horizontally, with the hoisting mechanism which is an integral part of the machine. To carry out the failure analysis of shaft it is necessary to model the shaft in any modelling software like PROE, CATIA etc. Then analysis of existing shaft is done analytically and with ANSYS11. The shaft is then redesigned with suitable material available in data book of machine design and then analysis of new design of shaft is done with the help of ANSYS-11 software. ]]>

Design, development and fabrication of a compact harvester /rautlaukik/design-development-and-fabrication-of-a-compact-harvester designdevelopmentandfabricationofacompactharvester-200506173815
This machine targets the small scale farmers who have land area of less than 2 acres. This machine is compact and can cut up to two rows of soybean plant. It has cutting blades which cut the crop in a scissoring type of motion. It runs on diesel engine of 3HP, this power from engine, is provided through pulley and gear box arrangement to the cutter. A collecting mechanism is provided for the collection of crops to one side after cutting. This mechanism is also powered by pulley arrangement. Design of automatic wall plastering machine /slideshow/design-of-automatic-wall-plastering-machine/233292551 designofautomaticwallplasteringmachine-200506173511
Due to manual process of wall plastering on construction site, there is a huge scale requirement of labor and hence the labor cost is responsible for increasing the price of construction or project work. The quality of work is mostly depending on the skill of the labor work in manual plastering process. The solution of these problems is just to automate the process, so that there will be a saving of period and cost and getting good plaster finishing to the walls. The plastering machine can plaster the walls automatically and very smoothly. Due to which the process will fast and there will be saving of cost and time this will helps to reduce the total cost, total time which ultimately responsible for the growth and hence the progress rate of a country is going to increase]]>

A review on design and development of eccentric shaft for cotton /slideshow/a-review-on-design-and-development-of-eccentric-shaft-for-cotton/233292476 areviewondesignanddevelopmentofeccentricshaftforcotton-200506173330
The present review provides brief information about the design of eccentric shaft for cotton ginning machine. The author suggest that, significant of eccentric shaft are as follows, 1. Due to the small eccentric distance in design of eccentric shaft; friction torque is very small, which result in small friction loss and high system efficiency. 2. The torque acted on motor increased as eccentric distance expanded which result in poor force condition and complicate structure. 3. Eccentric shaft are usually with features of small eccentric distance, thus its can only provide small displacement. Eccentric shaft is the important element, which play the important role in ginning operation. These shafts provide an oscillatory motion or action to moving knives. Eccentric shaft is required in various industries according to their application. In traditional case, implementation of the proper selection of raw material, latest and advance methodologies is typical task. Examination of parametric linkages reveals that eccentric shaft life is dependent on load acting on the eccentric shaft, its geometry, metallurgical properties and wear. Today in design and development of eccentric shaft by using the good quality of raw material that is alloy steel with composition of Fe (98.5%), Al (0.5%), C (0.5%), and Mo (0.5%) by using that composition the life of eccentric shaft is increases. latest and advance methodologies for ginning machine increases productivity and high quality of operation is possible]]>

Finite element analysis of single cylinder engine /slideshow/finite-element-analysis-of-single-cylinder-engine/233292311 finiteelementanalysisofsinglecylinderengine-200506172920
This paper deals with, the problem occurred in single cylinder engine crank shaft. It consist of static structural and fatigue analysis of single cylinder engine crank shaft. It identifies and solves the problem by using the modeling and simulation techniques. The topic was chosen because of increasing interest in higher payloads, lower weight, higher efficiency and shorter load cycles in crankshaft. The main work was to model the crank shaft with dimensions and then simulate the crank shaft for static structural and fatigue analysis. The modeling software used is PRO-E wildfire 4.0 for modeling the crank shaft. The analysis software ANSYS will be used for structural and fatigue analysis of crank shaft for future work. The material for crank shaft is EN9 and other alternate materials on which analysis will be done are SAE 1045, SAE 1137, SAE 3140, and Nickel Cast Iron. The objectives involves modeling and analysis of crank shaft, so as to identify the effect of stresses on crank shaft, to compare various materials and to provide possible solution. ]]>

This research work aims to understand Total Quality Management concepts and evaluating the extent of TQM implementation in Mechanical Engineering Department through student feedback survey. In keeping with the newer demands that have been placed on the self financed educational system by the various stakeholders, the technical educational system in particular, has been pressured to shift its focus from one in quantitative expansion to one with emphasis on quality. Growth and survival of these institutes is fully depending on their competitive working style, opinions of their customers/students about their performance, and contribution to economic growth. It is being increasingly recognized that high quality of products and services are associated with customer satisfaction and they are the key points for survival for any organization whether educational or otherwise. Not oblivious to the need for adaptation to serve the interests of its stakeholders, in terms of greater responsiveness, the educational system has begun to realize the significance of total quality management (TQM) in education.]]>
