I hate boxes and putting myself/others into them. But if I had to say one thing—well I'm either a pragmatic idealist or an idealistic pragmatist most days. I'd say it's about 60/40. I value moments of reflective, ambivalent silence just as much as moments of unbridled conviction. For better or for worse, I believe in the power and eventual triumph of reason. I appreciate people who hold fast to convictions conscientiously formed, but I respect even more the people who have enough sense and humility to assume no omniscience. I have boundless adoration for the earnest, the idealist, s/he who is perceptibly disturbed at injustice and is moved to acti
