I could hear screams every day as my colleagues pulled the fingernails out of the English language. "Write the English Better" was my desperate response... Less a presentation than a plea, "Write the English Better", was my attempt to "be the change I wanted to see in the world" — a phrase someone pulled from a fortune cookie on too many days. In "Write the English Better", I flashed up a phrase I'd heard around the office. The countdown music from "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" played while participants twisted their heads around an abuse of the language. Later, "Write the English Better" grew into "I Touch Yourself", a half-day session on being kinder to the language we all rely on to be understood. There are some screechers in the presentation, all captured in the field. ]]>

What's in a brand journalist's kit bag? Content marketing equipment breakdown /stevenlewis/whats-in-a-brand-journalists-kit-bag contentmarketingequipment-150117223124-conversion-gate01
What equipment does a brand journalist need for content marketing assignments? A breakdown of the cameras -- still and video cameras -- microphones and other tools we use when on assignment for a client. In this case, it's an inventory of the equipment we actually took to CES in Las Vegas in January 2015 for one of our content marketing and social media clients. 1. Unpacking the bag -- 9 kgs, including two cameras, six microphones and all the cables that go with them 2. Camera equipment for content marketing -- Everyone has their own preferences but we favour the Canon 7D. The Canon 5D Mark III is the gold standard DSLR for video -- you'll find it in Hollywood -- but you'll be paying for quality differences few of your audience will notice in a YouTube video. We also carry a Fujifilm X100s. Don't let its retro styling fool you. It packs a world of features into a compact package. It's lighter, less obtrusive and can also shoot video. Then there's the GoPro -- perfect in a tight spot and also for attaching to moving objects and mounting to a selfie-stick to gain extra height or film yourself talking to camera. 3. Audio equipment -- DSLR's have impressive audio considering but not good enough for broadcast. The Zoom H6 mounts on the Canon 7D (with an attachment Zoom sells). It comes with a selection of microphones and also takes inputs from lapel mics, handheld mics and any other mics you might be using in your situation. It even provides phantom power for condenser mics. There's very little you'll be recording in a brand journalism assignment or a content marketing situation that the Zoom H6 can't handle. 4. Miscellaneous kit -- Once you've packed 9kgs of equipment into a bag, you might not want to carry it too far (even when you've added an extra pad for the strap). A Go Travel trolley folds up compact enough for an overhead locker but is sturdy enough for the job. We were wheeling a laptop, the equipment bag and a third bag through LAX with no trouble at all.]]>

It might be about a product you want people to buy or something you want your staff to get behind. My job is to get your message across in any medium in a way that: â–º People pay attention to â–º And understand (One of the hidden costs of corporate doublespeak is customers or staff doing the "wrong" thing because they didn't understand the message but thought they did.) Drawing on 20 years' experience as a journalist and 10 years' as a social media strategist, I work with clients to get their message across in any medium -- websites, marketing materials, videos, brochures, social media, speeches and presentations. taleist.agency https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/writetheenglishbetter-191022205823-thumbnail.jpg?width=320&height=320&fit=bounds stevenlewis/write-the-english-better-a-presentation-writing-in-plain-english Write the English Bett... https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/contentmarketingequipment-150117223124-conversion-gate01-thumbnail.jpg?width=320&height=320&fit=bounds stevenlewis/whats-in-a-brand-journalists-kit-bag What's in a brand jour... https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/5secretsofmarketingyourbusinessonline-141112001504-conversion-gate02-thumbnail.jpg?width=320&height=320&fit=bounds slideshow/5-secrets-of-marketing-your-business-online-when-you-dont-have-time/41440976 5 secrets of marketing...
