Network is the area where the whole of human activity takes place in the called developed societies as our environment. Everything and everybody –contents, objects, tools, devices, spaces and actions– is interconnected in a complex socio-technological environment where knowledge and the set of areas of human activity have been transformed in just two decades. In this context, to sustain their activity as usual, people use Internet and digital technology regularly in their daily life, in all areas within it. This necessarily generates certain habits, knowledge and mastery of technology at an informal level that can be used for application in several learning situations. By means of open interviews and one survey, in this thesis the use of digital technology that takes place in everyday life, relating to its application in a formal learning context is analyzed from the point of view of the people involved. More specifically, it goes in depth in their digital universe –which includes several dimensions and areas of activity such as professional, personal, social, management of knowledge, learning, etc.– in their technology uses, in their perception about their skills, and especially in the utility attributed by them to these different uses for developing training activity at the university. According to this purpose, the present study is contextualized by a conceptual framework focusing on the nature of learning in the network as a phenomenon, dealing with aspects considered relevant as connective knowledge, personal learning environments (PLE) or the ecological perspective, together with an analysis of the 21st Century educational trends related to the application of digital technology to learn, as well as with the concept of digital competence. Moreover, in line with other similar studies conducted in recent years, this research is into a complex perspective on the question of the application of digital technology used in daily life for learning activity, attributing their characteristics to multiple factors. In this sense, it shows critical of the positions that defend the generational factor –according to which, the generations born with digital technology present different skills and behavior regarding the previous ones–, proposing new interpretations and lines of future work.]]>
