Grand dad did you breathe
before air cons were invented
was it hard staying
alive without modern inventions?
Grandma werent you flustered
as you fluttered with paper fans?
Could you communicate before
faxes and long distance calls
Became basic necessities?
Grandchild we lived
before your age. Because
of our ignorance,
we did not know
pollution, stress, traffic jams
destruction of forests, streams and hills
we feared God and nature
now nature fears you and
money is your new God

SECTION C
[10 marks]
[Time suggested: 20 minutes]
Read the text below and complete the following task.
I was in a shopping mall buying a pair of shoes to replace the old ones. As I was
heading to the clothes department, I caught sight of a woman and a young boy standing
suspiciously close to a frail looking old woman. The lady gave a quick glance around them
and nodded to the young boy. At the second nod, the young boy carefully put his hand into
the old ladys handbag and took out her purse. She didnt notice of what had happened.
I stood there stunned. Still unsure of what action to take, I decided to follow them as
they were heading towards the escalator. When I saw two security guards at the other end, I
decided to take action. I caught hold of the womans arm and it took her by surprise. She tried
to run away but I managed to tighten my grip to stop her.
Seeing a small commotion on the escalator, the security guards quickly made way
towards us. Then, I calmly told the guards what had happened and they managed to find the
stolen purse in the womans handbag.
One of the security guards took the woman and the young boy to their office for
further action. The other one asked for my assistance to find the old lady. After searching for
her for 10 minutes, we managed to locate her. She was at the cashier counter and was having
difficulty to find her purse. We returned it to her and she was very grateful. She even offered
me some money but I declined. I didnt do anything much actually, just doing my job as a
Good Samaritan.
Write a summary on how did the writer respond to a theft.
Your summary must
not be more than 60 words, including the 10 words given below.
