La segunda generacin reemplaz las vlvulas por transistores y utiliz lenguajes de alto nivel. La tercera generacin introdujo los circuitos integrados. La cuarta generacin dio lugar a las computadoras personales debido a la micro miniaturizacin. La quinta generacin buscaba desarrollar computadoras con inteligencia artificial.
