CONVERSION
2. Introduction
? The BINARY to GRAY CODE CONVERTER is a
digital circuit that is used to convert the binary input
into the corresponding equivalent gray code at its
output.
? The circuit is a simple digital circuit which employs
the use of Ex-OR gate IC for its operation. The
output of the circuit (Gray code)finds various
practical applications
3. Theory and Methodology
? Gray Code: The most important feature of grey code
is that it exhibits only a single bit change from one
code to the next. Its also known as the Reflected
Binary Code. Its named after ¡°Frank Gray¡±.
? Like binary numbers the Gray code can have any
numbers of bits. For instance in going from decimal 3
to 4,the Gray Code changes from 0010 to 0110
whole the binary code changes from 0011 to 0100 a
change of 3bits.The only bit change is in the third bit
from the right in the gray code; the other remains the
same.
4. XOR Operation
? The output of an XOR is HIGH only when the
two inputs are at opposite logic level. It means
output X is HIGH when input A is LOW ,B is
HIGH and when A is HIGH B is low Output is
LOW.

corresponding Gray code
6. CONVERTING BINARY TO GRAY
? 1)The most significant bit(MSB) in GRAY and
BINARY code is similar.
? 2) Other bits are obtained by XOR operation of two
Adjacent binary bits.
7. EQUIPMENTS
? Trainer Board
? Switch 4 pc
? Register 8 pc ( 270 ohm)
? LED 8 pc (4 green,4 red)
? XOR gate (SN74HC86N) 1 pc
? 7805v Regulator
? Connecting Wire
10. Applications
? Gray codes are useful in situations where analog
information is being converted to digital information
or vice versa.
? The Gray code was originally designed to prevent
spurious output from electromechanical switches.
Today, Gray codes are widely used to facilitate error
correction in digital communications such as in
television and some cable TV systems.
? Gray codes are used in labeling the axes of
Karnaugh maps.
11. Conclusion
? The circuit is very compact and handy and has
wide applications. It finds its application mostly in
the communication field.
? The simple design and low manufacturing cost
are the added advantage.
12. COST ANALYSIS
? Breadboard =230tk
? Switch -4pc = 20tk
? Register -8pc =15tk
? LED 8pc =10tk
? XOR gate(SN74HC86N) 1Pc=10 tk
? 7805v regulator =10tk
? Total cost for the project is 300tk approximately.
