In the pre-RC, I shared the story of Gul, a 12-year-old boy. To remind you, Gul picked an improvised device, mistaking it for a toy. It tragically exploded, leaving him with severe injuries to his limbs and torso. Despite the severity of his condition, Gul and his family were unable to access an ambulance because of prehospital care services were non-existent. They had to borrow money from neighbors to take a taxi to the nearest hospital, which was five hours away. Today, Gul lives with life-long disabilities. His family struggles to care for him, as they lack access to rehabilitation and long-term care, and they have expressed that he is now a burden to them. Today, I want to start my presentation on a positive note. I will begin with a brief video showcasing how our rehabilitation program in Syria is helping people like Gul who were injured either by the recent earthquake or as a result of 13 years of conflict that is still prevalent today..
