Clayton Paul Alderfer developed the ERG theory which categorized Maslow's hierarchy of needs into three categories: Existence, Relatedness, and Growth. Alderfer's ERG theory posited that an individual's needs progress from Existence needs like physiological and safety, to Relatedness needs like love and belongingness, and finally to Growth needs like esteem and self-actualization. The higher up an individual progresses in the ERG theory, the better satisfied they are.
