The Stanley Hotel Maze Design Competition 2015
I wanted the design to incorporate three main characters/items from the movie: The Twin Girls The Redrum Door The Boy on the Tricycle As you approach the entrance to the maze you enter into the Maze Plaza. You are pulled in to the Maze Plaza by the statue of the Twin Girls at the end of a linear gas fire pit. As you walk towards the statue water jets intermittently spray a fine arched stream over the fire pit. The water feature would only be used in the summer months and would be a great feature for kids. The gas fire pit can be used year round and would be great to attract visitors in the winter months. The Maze Plaza also contains annual flower pots and bench seating. Once you enter the maze it eventually leads you to an eerie long linear private Room #1. This room contains a statue of the "Redrum Door" at the end of the room. There is a flower garden below the statue and bench seating along the sides of the room. The door statue pulls you to it but not to close because you don't want to find out whats on the other side. As you leave Room #1 behind you eventually end up in room #2. This room contains a statue of the "Boy Riding a Tricycle" at the end of the room. There is a flower garden below the statue and bench seating along the sides of the room. You begin to notice that the boy statue is eerily staring at the two girls statue in the Maze Plaza. Once you leave Room #2 you eventually make it through the maze and end up back at the start of the maze and the Maze Plaza. This proposed maze design will attract many new visitors to the Hotel. It would also be a great wedding backdrop for the perfect couple. The maze could also have huge potential at night with the correct lighting scheme. It would be a great Halloween destination at night or gathering area for a private Halloween party.
