Android was developed in 2003 by Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears and Chris White and was later acquired by Google in 2005. It is an open source operating system used by many companies that are members of the Open Handset Alliance. Android has grown significantly in market share and has released many versions starting with Astro in 2008 up to the current Lollipop version.
