The primary difference between design and art is that design has a clear purpose to convey a specific message to an audience, while art allows for more interpretation. As an artist and designer, the creator is interested in how perception is manipulated through visual language to create meaning and associate ideas. Recurring themes in their work examine the intersection of the physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual realms as related to environment and concepts of time, place, and lack thereof.

1. Artist Statement
The primary difference between designing for a client and working for
oneself, as I used to think of art making, is that of purpose. Design
has a distinct purpose by definition: to convey a specific message to an
intended audience. While art also has a particular audience, its mes-
sage is not always as clear. Room for interpretation of a work of art
is in fact, desirable.
As an artist, designer and videographer, I am interested in perception
in general the creation of meaning and association of ideas through
the manipulation of a visual language. As a human being, I am in-
terested in certain subject matter over others, including the idea of
context or location in time/place and a lack thereof, or a sense of the
untimely. Environment and the intersection of the physical, psycho-
logical, emotional and spiritual realms of consciousness are important
themes recurring in my artwork.
It is a pleasure to present this work and to see the parallels which can
be drawn between both approaches to the creative act.
