This presentation discusses behaviour management and organizational behaviour management (OBM). It introduces behaviour management as focusing on maintaining order, while behaviour modification aims to change behaviour. OBM applies psychological principles and experimental analysis of behaviour to improve individual and group performance in organizations. OBM was first popularized by Dr. Alyce Dickinson, and the first graduate program was offered at Western Michigan University under Dr. Dick Malott. OBM interventions can increase productivity, billable hours, and effective pay systems in various workplace settings.
2. Introduction to Behaviour
Management
Behaviour management is similar to behaviour modification.
It is a less intensive version of behaviour therapy. In behaviour
modification the focus is on changing behaviour, while in
behaviour management the focus is on maintaining order.
Behaviour management skills are of particular importance to
professionals in the corporate world. Behaviour management
include all of the actions and conscious inactions to enhance
the probability people, individually and in groups, choose
behaviours which are personally fulfilling, productive, and
socially acceptable.[1]
4. Introduction to OBM
Organizational behaviour management (Applied Behaviour
Analysis) (OBM) is an important aspect of management
which applies psychological principles of
organizational behaviour and the
experimental analysis of behaviour to organizations to
improve individual and group performance and worker safety.
The areas of application may include: systems analysis,
management, training, and performance improvement.[1][2]
OBM is similar to human resource management, with more
emphasis on applied behaviour analysis and systems-level
focus.
5. Some important facts related
to OBM
OBM is a concept first bought into the lime light by Dr.
Alyce Dickinson.
Also the first university to offer a graduate program in
OBM and systems analysis was Western Michigan
University
The first teacher to teach the course was Dr. Dick
Malott.
6. Features
OBM interventions have been varied and include working
with therapists on increasing billable hours [3] to increasing
productivity in Fortune 500 companies[4] to creating effective
pay systems.[5][6][7]
OBM takes principles from many fields, including behavioural
systems analysis and performance management, although
there is some debate as to whether taking principles from
fields outside of behaviour analysis meshes within the
definition of OBM.[8] Related fields include behaviour-based
safety and behavioural engineering.[9][10]
