This document contains a discussion prompt and student response about Beowulf. The prompt asks why the description of Grendel's home beginning on line 1052 is considered a masterpiece of Old English poetry. The student response argues that it may be considered masterful because it describes step-by-step the places where the monsters fought. It also captures places that still exist today, such as wolf-slopes, windswept headlands, and perilous paths across boggy moors, demonstrating the poet's skill in bringing the landscape to life through language. Now, the description is considered great art that helps preserve history through literature.

2. Discussion 8
The description of the place where Grendel and his mother live,
beginning on line 1052, is considered one of the masterpieces of
Old English poetry. Explain why this might be true.
At that time people believed in mysterious spirits, like Grendel and his mother. It
might be true because it describes step by step the places where the monster
began to fight. Also, because in that place exist the arts which were created by
the artist or craftsperson. Moreover, the lands where it happened are the same
as today but the realty is that those places were used to act such as the places
which are mentioned in the poem, for example the little-known country where
they lived, the wolf-slopes, the windswept headlands, and perilous paths across
the boggy moors where a mountain stream plunges under the mist-covered
cliffs and the lake. On the other hand, the mentioned places in Beowulf exist but
not the character because they are mythological. Nowadays, it might be
considered true because it is art and art make history as literature.
Some places which are considered true according to the poem and the real life:
Wolf-slopes: it is the side of the hill habited by wolves, wolf-slopes, retreat of
wolves or a hill where the wolf has its den.
Windswept: place has no shelter and is not protected against strong winds.
Headlands: is a piece of land, usually high and often with a sheer drop, which
extends out into a body of water.
Boggy moors: they are wet and soft paths also covered with grass.
