married Catherine Hogart (who then
became Catherine Dickens) and they

Dickens lived in the Victorian period
from 7th February 1812 - 9th June
1870. King William IV was in power
when Dickens was born and Queen
Victoria was in power from 1837 and
continued until after Dickens had died.
He died at the age of 58.

England, and lived most of his life in and
around London. He probably lived there so his
novels could easily be sent to stores and

blacking factory to pay for his familys food
and clothes, etc. When his father was 鍖nally
released from the debtors prison, his
mother continued to make him work. Later
on, when he was 22, he published articles in
The Monthly Magazine. After that, he was a
writer for most of the rest of his life.

relevant to people. Also, some of them are
about life in Australia as convicts, and back
then people didnt know much about Australia
and its new creatures. The novels are famous
and loved because they are written with detail
and back then they were new and exciting.
Now, however, they contain language that was
used two centuries ago, so we can compare
how our language has changed over time.
