Charles Dickens was a famous Victorian period writer who lived from 1812 to 1870. He is renowned for his creative and imaginative novels such as A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, A Christmas Carol, and Oliver Twist. Dickens became famous through his writing and by publishing his novels as weekly or monthly installments in newspapers and magazines. To this day, people still enjoy and relate to Dickens' stories and characters.

Who was Charles Dickens? Charles Dickens was a famous Victorian period writer. He was the son of John Dickens and Elizabeth Dickens. He married Catherine Hogart (who then became Catherine Dickens) and they had 10 children together.
Why is he so famous? Dickens is famous for his creativity and genius. He created amazing stories and people enjoyed his writing. Also in his day and age, there werent many good authors, so because of this he was known throughout Europe and America. Some of his more famous novels include A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, A Christmas Carol, Nicolas Nickleby, Oliver Twist and David Copper鍖eld.
When did he live? Dickens lived in the Victorian period from 7th February 1812 - 9th June 1870. King William IV was in power when Dickens was born and Queen Victoria was in power from 1837 and continued until after Dickens had died. He died at the age of 58.
Where did he live? Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth, England, and lived most of his life in and around London. He probably lived there so his novels could easily be sent to stores and libraries to sell to people.
What did he do? When Dickens was 12, his father was put into debtors prison, and so Dickens had to work 10 hours a day at Warrens boot- blacking factory to pay for his familys food and clothes, etc. When his father was 鍖nally released from the debtors prison, his mother continued to make him work. Later on, when he was 22, he published articles in The Monthly Magazine. After that, he was a writer for most of the rest of his life.
How did he become famous? Dickens became famous by using his creative genius and writing novels and short stories. Some of his novels were published in weekly or monthly editions in newspapers or magazines, and people anxiously awaited each and every edition.
How do people still know about him? People still know about Charles Dickens because he was one of the most famous authors in the world. People have also found his books in libraries and households. Some people say they read Dickenss books because they tell us why we are what we are. People can relate to his characters, such as Oliver Twist, always asking for more.
Why are his stories/ novels so famous/loved/signi鍖cant? Dickens's novels are signi鍖cant because some of his stories are about things that are relevant to people. Also, some of them are about life in Australia as convicts, and back then people didnt know much about Australia and its new creatures. The novels are famous and loved because they are written with detail and back then they were new and exciting. Now, however, they contain language that was used two centuries ago, so we can compare how our language has changed over time.
