This document outlines 6 rules for staying safe when chatting online: 1) Do not share personal details, photos, or information that can identify you. 2) Be wary of others' identities online. 3) Never meet someone only met online without parental permission and taking an adult. 4) Stay in public chat areas where others are around. 5) Do not open files from untrusted sources. 6) Do not respond to disturbing content and tell an adult.
2. Chat Room Safety Rule # 1 Don't give out personal details, photographs, or any other information that could be used to identify you, such as information about your family, where you live or the school you go to
3. Chat Room Safety Rule # 2 Don't take other people at face value - they may not be what they seem.
4. Chat Room Safety Rule # 3 Never arrange to meet someone you've only ever previously met on the Internet without first telling your parents, getting their permission and taking a responsible adult with you. The first meeting should always be in a public place
5. Chat Room Safety Rule # 4 Always stay in public areas of chat and where there are other people around.
6. Chat Room Safety Rule # 5 Don't open an attachment or download a file unless you know and trust the person who has sent it.
7. Chat Room Safety Rule #6 Never respond directly to anything you find disturbing - save or print it, log off and tell an adult.
