Curley's wife tells Lennie about her dream of becoming a movie star and her loneliness. She married Curley to spite her mother who didn't support her acting ambitions. Lennie accidentally killed his puppy by breaking its neck while playing. In response to Lennie saying he likes soft things, Curley's wife puts his hand in her hair. Curley's wife later dies from a broken neck. Lennie is accused of stealing Carlson's gun. Lennie imagines his aunt and a white rabbit scolding him.
