CityHarvest is a concept that harnesses existing and underutilized resources and community knowledge to address the issue of healthy food storage, preparation, and cooking in the Central Market/Tenderloin neighborhoods of San Francisco. CityHarvest is a service with a physical storefront and a web component where - local residents can donate overflow produce from their gardens, for which they will get recognition and points; - excess food from the SF Food Bank, FoodRunners, and other organizations can be collected at a central spot; - Central Market/Tenderloin residents with the knowledge and desire to cook can share their talents and memories with fellow residents via community meals; - vacant and underutilized restaurant/community kitchen spaces are used for the benefit of the community, and create streetfront visibility for the program; and - Central Market/Tenderloin residents with the desire to eat a healthy, fresh homecooked meal can do so with their community.
