Maryam Adeen presented on methods for collecting gases. There are three main methods: displacement of water, upward delivery, and downward delivery. Displacement of water is best for gases insoluble in water. Upward delivery is used for gases less dense than air like ammonia and hydrogen. Downward delivery is for gases denser than air such as carbon dioxide, chlorine, hydrogen chloride and sulfur dioxide.

* The Collection of a gas depends on two
factors:
?Density of the gas
?Solubility in water

*This is the best method to collect a gas when it
is insoluble in water. Whether lighter or heavier
than air if gas is insoluble this method can be
used easily.

*A gas that is less dense than air can be
collected by upward delivery. Examples of
gases that can be collected by this method are
ammonia and hydrogen.
