This document discusses the use of games in public libraries. A 2006 survey found that 75% of public libraries used games in some way and 40% ran gaming programs. Common goals of library gaming programs were to attract underserved groups, increase the library's role in the community, and provide additional services. Outcomes included improved reputation of the library, increased return visits for non-gaming services, improved social connections among participants, and increased use of other library resources during visits. The document advocates for creating transformative games and play for informal learning environments and provides examples of library gaming programs and events.
