COMPOSITION TOPICS LEVEL C
1. Should students be allowed to grade their teachers?
a. It is a general truth the fact that teachers grade students but would the
world be turned upside down if students would also be allowed to grade
their teachers?
To begin with, though the grading offered by a student is not always the
most objective, I think that students are more entitled than any inspector to
grade their teachers work in class because, after all they are the ones who
interact the most with the teacher and can appreciate the effects that the
teacher has on them. In addition, it is very important for teachers to know
how their pupils appreciate their work so that they can improve and adapt
to their needs.
Secondly, students should be allowed to grade their teachers because if
teachers get a feedback from their students they will be aware of their
qualities and flaws and will be able to highlight their qualities and cover up
their flaws with some positive aspects. Furthermore, it is a good stimulation
for students to be allowed to grade their teachers because they would be
aware of how hard it is to keep yourself objective when grading someone
and so they will respect more their teachers and take more seriously their
responsibilities.
Another argument in favor of students grading teachers is that being
graded will stimulate teachers to be better in their job and to focus more on
their relationship with children. This will benefit the students who fill find in
their teachers mentors who can guide their lives.
However, some students are immature and shallow and cant grade
properly a teacher. It is common for weak students to blame their teachers
for their failures so they cant be objective when grading a teacher.
2. Moreover, if a student provides the teacher with a low grade it is possible
that the teacher would stop being objective when grading that particular
student because he is not able to accept criticism for someone with less
experience.
To sum up, I think that students should be allowed to grade their teachers,
as long as they bring arguments for the grades given, so that the criticism
will be constructive and the changes that will follow will benefit both
teachers and students.
b. The process of education is complicated for both students and teachers,
because the young people have to work hard in order to gain new
information and the teachers are responsible for the improvement of the
effectiveness of this process. Naturally, people can not be perfect and
everyone is an individual who has his own strong and weak sides,
approaches towards education and presentation of the material. Every
teacher is different and suggests his own methods of education which can
be treated by students differently. Students understand that the educational
process is a serious problem and that its quality depends on the teacher.
Teachers are different: there novice and inexperienced teachers and the
reputed and honoured ones who are supposed to be the experts in this
field. In order to improve the educational process students ask to be
allowed to grade their teachers and this question has its supporters and
opponents.
To begin with, it is quite reasonable to grade a teacher, because one can
not evaluate his work himself objectively. Third people can do it much
better. Then, students mention the mistakes of a teacher, especially if he is
inexperienced and can not organize the educational process correctly. In
this case it is wise to provide the teacher with the piece of advice
concerning the methods of studying and approach towards the process of
education. Next, constant grading is a stimulus for a teacher to improve his
knowledge and professional skills. Being controlled by the students he
starts to deepen his knowledge on the discipline all the time improving the
quality of the classes with interesting material.
However, the problem has its drawbacks. For example, a student is not so
experienced to be able to evaluate the work of the teacher professionally.
One can not criticise a person higher in rank without the possession of the
appropriate knowledge and skills. Secondly, many students will use grading
for their own benefit evaluating the teachers work as poor just because he
is demanding and strict, as every student dreams to work little and receive
only high marks.
3. So, the problem is serious and controversial and students can be given a
certain right to grade their teachers but this ability should be seriously
limited.
3. The traffic problems in our city and how to solve them
Traffic problem is one of the serious problems that HCM city has to cope
with day by day. Traffic congestion causes irritated feelings for people,
takes people time and slows down development of economy. For me, in
order to solve this problem, HCM city needs some possible solutions as
follows. First of all, the city government has to invest more money in
widening and upgrading the road system to provide extensive paths for all
kinds of vehicles on the street. As a result, all means of transport can move
smoothly on rush hours and traffic jams will be certainly reduced. Secondly,
the city government needs to have many effective ways to encourage
people to use public transport more and use their private vehicles less. This
can be done by providing new and modern buses with air-conditioners and
entertainment devices. Public transport must depart and arrive on time to
get belief in passengers. In addition, staff should behave well with
passengers. Finally, the city government should have campaigns to
introduce traffic laws to citizens to help them understand more clearly about
them. Besides, it is necessary to fine heavily people who break the traffic
law intentionally. To sum up, with three possible solutions above, HCM city
can partly solve the traffic congestion.
4. The computer is changing our way of life.
Computer is obviously an important tool in modern society due to benefits
that it can bring to our life. However, there are some good things and
negative effects when using computer. It is easy to realize that computer is
used widely in a variety of fields such as medicine, education,
telecommunications etc. Moreover, it can serve as a tool of working,
researching, studying and entertaining etc. With computer, people can work
effectively and finish their work quickly. Besides that, computer can help to
store a great deal of data and information in disks compared with saving
data by paper. Furthermore, computer can assist people in working and
developing new inventions that make their lives better and more
comfortable. Nevertheless, computer also brings some negative effects to
our lives. For example, people seem to be glued to computer and they are
dependent on computer and they want things to be done right away. In
4. addition, working on computer too much can have bad influences on
peoples health such as shortsighted, fatigues and less active. To sum up,
there are always two sides of a matter. This is also true for computer that
has both good and bad effects.
5. Learn is a lifelong process.
I agree that learning is lifelong process because people have to spend
many years of learning during their life. For example, it takes 5 years to
complete elementary school and 4 years more to finish secondary school
and another 3 years to complete high school. Therefore, it can be seen that
it takes about 12 years to achieve basic knowledge for life. Moreover, it
takes them another 4 years at university. If people want to study further,
they have to spend 3 years for master degree and another 3 years for
doctor degree. Therefore, learning is not a short process. Moreover,
knowledge is endless so they have to always study during their life. They
not only learn about basic professional knowledge but also practical
experience and behavior. As a result, no one can be sure that they achieve
all knowledge in this world. Moreover, if people do not learn more, they will
be drawback because knowledge is updated everyday. Thats the reasons
why learning is lifelong process.
6. Advertising on television is beneficial to viewers?
Its easy to find advertisement on mass media nowadays, especially on
television. For me, advertising on TV is generally beneficial to viewers. First
of all, customers can know information about new products or products that
they are in need. They can know who produces the products and where
they are manufactured. Moreover, advertising on TV also helps customers
to have ideas about a range of products of the same kind so its useful for
them to compare between products and give a final decision to buy the
product that they think it is suitable for them. In addition, people also know
where to buy the products that they would like to buy. However, advertising
on TV also has some negative effects. For example, some manufacturers
advertise wrongly about their products and advertising sometimes
encourages people to buy things that they dont really need so they might
waste a lot of money. To sum up, advertising on TV is generally beneficial
to viewers.
7. Should university students be encouraged to take up part time
jobs?
5. Nowadays, more and more students work part-time jobs while they are at
university. There are controversy ideas about this matter. However, in my
opinion, students should not take up part-time jobs. In fact, people can
argue that when working part-time jobs, students can get working
experience and earn some money for their life at the same time. However,
there are still some negative effects. First of all, the main duty of students is
to study and get good results so they should spend their free time to gain
much more knowledge. There are a lot of jobs waiting for them when they
graduate from university. Secondly, when working part-time jobs, students
may be tired and get sick and this will affect their learning and result in bad
scores. Furthermore, there are some cases in which students do part-time
work unrelated to their majors so what they can learn from these jobs. Its
just a waste of time. If they try to study well, they can get scholarship to
support their daily life. Finally, students may commit social evils when they
work outside because social life is more complex than school environment.
8. The development of tourism in Vietnam.
Tourism is considered as a non-smoking industry which plays an important
part in the development of any economy. In order to develop tourism in
Vietnam, it is necessary to have some following solutions. First of all, we
need to advertise VNs images to people worldwide by many ways so that
people know Vietnam as an exciting and safe destination for holiday.
Secondly, government should invest money or call for investment in
developing tourist resorts to supply the demand of tourism. Thirdly, tourist
companies should provide a variety of tourist products so that all people
can choose any tours that are suitable with their interest and money.
Finally, it is vital to keep security and political stability because tourists do
not risk their lives to travel in unsafe place. To sum up, with its important
role in economic development, tourism in Vietnam should be concerned to
develop well by some solutions as mentioned above.
9. Which do you think is more valuable health or wealth?
People said that health is more precious than gold. Therefore, I think that
health is more valuable than wealth. The fact is that money is very
important in life because money can help to satisfy most of our basic
demands in life. However, money is not all because there is still one thing
that is more important than money. Its health. In fact, when we are healthy,
we can work and earn a lot of money for our life. In addition, we can enjoy
our life and perform many dreams and ambitions during our life. A healthy
person is certainly optimistic and has belief in his or her life. Furthermore, if
6. we are not healthy, we may get some serious diseases that can not be
cured, even we have a lot of money with us. In these cases, money is
nothing. With mentioned things, it is clear that health is more important than
wealth.
12. What can be done to solve Environmental problems
Nowadays, as world develops rapidly more and more global ecological
problems occur. It is claimed that, this trend too immense to be reversed by
certain countries or residents. In my perspective, such opinion seems
rather justifiable due to environmental problems become worldwide and all
countries in the world have to be responsible for it.
One of the critical ecological problems is the global warming that caused by
large emissions of carbon dioxide in atmosphere by cars, airplanes, fabrics
all over the world. The considerable number of cars is used by people in all,
even in undeveloped countries, industrialized ones characterized by that of
fabrics which produce largest amount of exhaust gases and cheap air
traffic is available almost everywhere. All those promotes global
temperature to rise, that eventually leads to catastrophes and disasters over
the world. Therefore it as clearly that, every country including its residents
are responsible.
However, it would be unconceiveable to force all societies and people on
the earth, at the same time, start solving such vital problem. In this case,we
have to start from ourselves, for instance, take a public transport instead of
drive a car, then if any of us would try to do that, this would reduce
greenhouse effect to some extent. Similarly, even a few nations which
would be able to decrease carbon dioxide emissions by replacing natural
energy sources especially oil by renewable ones such as solar, wind and
water power, would be beneficial. Consequently, their attempts could
spread these ideas and methods of improving situation with global warming
and lead to larger number of people and countries to be involved in this.
In conclusion, I think that vital ecological problems should be considered as
international problems since it takes its toll on a broad scale. And, not only
international and local authorities should handle environmental problems
but also every single person should take care of environment and be
conscious citizens of a clean and preserved planet.
13. Making a decision on ones first job is difficult.
After graduating from universities, most of students are eager to enter
labour force. However, sometimes it is difficult for them to make a decision
on their first jobs due to some of the following reasons.
7. Firstly, there are a lot of job opportunities available for them to choose so
they have to think carefully about their decision. Secondly, they have to
decide whether to be interested in the money side or job satisfaction when
they apply for a job. This may be a big question for them when choosing a
job. Thirdly, they may wonder to work for a government company with job
security but low benefits or to work for a private company with less job
security but high benefits. Apart from money side, people have to care
about other factors such as working opportunities, working environment,
colleague relationship etc. Finally, they have to decide to take a job relating
to their major at university or to take any job that they can find to earn
money in order to support their lives. In conclusion, there are some reasons
that make difficult for people when they decide their first jobs as mentioned
above.
