The document discusses congruence and similar shapes in geometry. It defines congruence as two shapes being the same size and shape, even if reflected or rotated, while similar shapes have the same angles but different side lengths. The success criteria are being able to rotate, reflect, and identify congruent shapes. Students are instructed to draw congruent and non-congruent shapes, cut them out, have a partner sort them, and explain their reasoning.

2. Similar Shapes
Two shapes are said to be similar to each
other if one is an enlargement of the other.
Angles stay the
same, side
lengths change
What do you notice about the length of the sides?
What do you notice about the size of the angles?
3. Congruence
Two shapes are said to be congruent if they
stay the same shape and size
The shapes may be a reflection of each other,
or be rotated or translated
Angles and side
lengths are the
same
4. Draw two columns into your
workbooks:
Congruent Shapes Non-Congruent Shapes
7. Your turn
1. On coloured paper, create four different
Congruent shapes and four different Non-congruent
shapes.
2. Cut them up
3. Give your shapes to a partner to place as
Congruent or Non-congruent.
4. Paste your new shapes into your book and
explain why each shape is Congruent or Non-congruent
