Captain James Cook was a British explorer and astronomer who made several voyages of exploration. He went to school in postage where he learned to write and was baptized in the parish church. Cook explored to observe the transit of Venus across the sun to measure the distance between Earth and the sun. He avoided scurvy by eating fruits and vegetables on his many expeditions that took him to many places around the world.
