The document discusses a project to enhance the visitor experience at Cork City Gaol museum through innovative digital media applications. It finds the current guided tour is outdated and the space could be more immersive. It proposes improving the tour, making use of empty jail cells, and adding more interactivity and emotions. The potential objectives are to create a more captivating overall experience, including potential for night tours, and using interactive audio and video to immerse visitors. Roles on the project are identified and future plans include revisiting the jail to expand concepts with prototypes across different mediums.
7. WHAT WE FOUND / ISSUES
Tape Cassette & TEXT BASED tour outdated
The history is fascinating but the space could be more
immersive
A.V Show at the end is good, but with other use of media could
be a lot better
Empty Cells?
NIGHT TOUR / SPECIAL EVENTS?
Very little to take away from experience
So, the first thing we decided to do after visiting the jail is set up a blog where we could document the process we are making. You can visit it at CORKGAOL.TUMBLR.COMWe upload sketches, ideas, and other various things relating to our project.
We also decided that it would be helpful to gather some user experiences to really discover what the general public thought of the gaol.Generally the answers were the same.
The tour had to be redone.
Main area of research I went into was the idea of a interactive experience for users who visit the jail. The use of audio video and interactive technology without a doubt enhance visitor experience. The three main companys I looked into were Martello BRC and northern light. They created some exhibitons such as the cliffs of mohar experience, and some exhibitions at blackrock castle.
A quote I found while reading into these companies and what theyve done really helped us with out vision.More immersive we make the tour, better understanding the visitor will end up with.
Finally there is martellos design principles which set out a framework to which a good exhibition will adhere to .
