Endometriosis is a polygenic disease present in 5-10% of women that was studied for its association with p53 gene codon72 polymorphism in Sri Lankan women. A case-control study compared 25 women with endometriosis to 17 without through laparoscopy or laparotomy. Genotype distribution of p53 codon 72 polymorphism showed no statistically significant difference in Proline allele frequency between cases and controls. While not associated with endometriosis, a higher Proline allele frequency was observed in advanced stages III and IV of the disease in this group of Sri Lankan women.
