This document presents a feasibility study for developing a microgrid to serve the South Energy District of Ithaca, NY. A team of graduate engineering students conducted the study under the supervision of Professor Francis Vanek. The team analyzed the potential for a microgrid to provide electricity to the area in a more sustainable and resilient way compared to the traditional electric grid. The study included a market survey of relevant technologies, an analysis of potential demand from local entities, and the development of scenarios to model the technical and economic feasibility of different microgrid configurations. The scenarios ranged from a minimum sized microgrid serving only priority loads, to a larger microgrid serving all demand in the area including Ithaca College, to a carbon neutral microgrid.
