The document introduces the author, Danielle Victoria anak Egong, a 14-year-old student from Sarawak, Malaysia. It discusses what it means to be a global citizen and the responsibility to avoid environmental degradation. It then explains the importance of air for human breathing and plant photosynthesis. The document also defines air pollution as contamination from human activities that can harm the natural environment. Some key pollutants are identified such as smoke, vehicle fumes, and factory emissions. Ways to reduce global warming through actions like planting trees, reducing toxic chemicals, and practicing the 3Rs are suggested. The document concludes by emphasizing factors that cause air pollution and their effects, and calling for actions like not smoking and carpooling
2. Introduction about myself… Name : Danielle Victoria anak Egong School : SMK Kidurong, Bintulu Age : 14 Years Old State : Sarawak Country : Malaysia
4. What it means… Global citizen is the concept of citizenship on a global level. As a global citizen I have the responsibility to avoid environmental degradation.
5. Why is air important? Human needs oxygen to breathe. Plants needs carbon dioxide to perform photosynthesis. Oxygen is required for combustion. http://wpcontent.answers.com/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2f/Auto-and_heterotrophs.svg/300px-Auto-and_heterotrophs.svg.png http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1414/1411913488_8983145eb7_o.jpg
6. What is air pollution? Pollution is an undesirable state of the natural environment being contaminated with harmful substances as a consequence of human activities. http://www.gbuapcd.org/Images/clipart/pollutioncomplaint1.jpg
7. All these pollutants are messing with our air! Cigarette smoke (carbon monoxide) Fumes from vehicles (carbon monoxide, nitrous oxides [NOx] Fume from factories (sulphur oxides [SOx]) Open burning Dusts Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) usage http://www.cswab.org/campaignstatus.jpg http:// www.cnycentral.com/uploadedImages/wstm/News/Stories/TRUCK%20SMOG%200422.jpg http://www.clipartguide.com/_named_clipart_images/0511-0901-0904-4511_Industrial_Factory_Polluting_the_Air_clipart_image.jpg
8. We can reduce global warming… By planting a lot of trees. Discourage open burning . Car pooling. Reduce usage of toxic chemical substances. Avoid using appliances that produce Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC). Practice the 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Reduce the need to copy or print. Switch off the lights when not in use. http://www.ca4h.org/4hresource/clipart/people/pics/plant%20trees.gif http://brightpancar.com.my/catalog/images/polyetylene_fiber/RECYCLE%20BIN%203%20IN%201%204.jpg http://www.rohitn.com/gogreen/images/turn_lights_off.jpg http://www.technoparktoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/carpool2.jpg
9. What we must remember… Factors – smoke, fumes, dust, CFC Effects – health risk, acid rain, greenhouse effect, ozone depletion, climate change, global warming Action – don’t smoke, car pooling, discourage open burning, plant more trees
