It is a continuous process of providing guidance to workers so that planning, organizing, and staffing can be effectively implemented. Directing consists of techniques that communicate instructions so that operations can be carried out as originally planned. It is a pervasive function required at all levels of an organization to inspire and direct people. Elements of directing include supervision, communication, leadership, and motivation.
