Distressing or Blessing
Text: Gen 25:21-24
21) And Isaac intreated the
LORD for his wife, because she
was barren: and the LORD was
intreated of him, and Rebekah
his wife conceived.
22) And the children struggled
together within her; and she
said, If it be so, why am I thus?
And she went to enquire of the
LORD.
23) And the LORD said unto
her, Two nations are in thy
womb, and two manner of
peopleshall be separated from
thy bowels; and the one people
shall be stronger than the other
2
people; and the elder shall
serve the younger.
24) And when her days to be
delivered were fulfilled,
behold,therewere twins in her
womb.
I. The Waiting- Gen
25:21
21) And Isaac intreated the
LORD and the LORD was
intreated of him
Isaac 40 at marriage
(v20), and 60 at the birth
of his children (v26).
This 20-year intercession
was learned by the
3
example of Abrahams
struggle.
Child promised at 75
(12:2)
Isaac given at 100 (21:5).
2Sam 8:14
And he put garrisons in Edom;
throughoutall Edomput he
garrisons, and all they of Edom
became David's servants. And
the LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
Isa 25:9
And it shall be said in that day,
Lo, this is our God; we have
waited for him, and he will
save us: this is the LORD; we
have waited for him, we will be
4
glad and rejoice in his
salvation.
Rom 5:2-3
2 By whom also we have
access by faith into this grace
wherein we stand, and rejoice
in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only so, but we glory
in tribulationsalso: knowing
that tribulation worketh
patience;
Isa 30:18
And therefore will the LORD
wait, that he may be gracious
unto you, and therefore will he
be exalted, that he may have
mercy upon you: for the LORD
5
is a God of judgment: blessed
are all they that wait for him.
II. The Wondering- Gen
25:22
22) If it be so, why am I
thus?
2Cor 12:10
Therefore I take pleasure in
infirmities, in reproaches, in
necessities, in persecutions, in
distresses for Christ's sake: for
when I am weak, then am I
strong.
2Cor 13:4
6
For though he was crucified
through weakness, yet he liveth
by the power of God. For we
also are weak in him, but we
shall live with him by the
power of God toward you.
Luke 8:18
Take heed therefore how ye
hear: for whosoever hath, to
him shall be given; and
whosoever hath not, from him
shall be taken even that which
he seemeth to have.
Rom 9:20
Nay but, O man, who art thou
that repliest against God? Shall
the thing formed say to him
that formed it, Why hast thou
made me thus?

III. The Warring- Gen
25:23
22) two manner of people
shall be separated from thy
bowels; and the one people
shall be stronger than the other
people; and the elder shall
serve the younger.
Gal 5:16-17
16 This I say then, Walk in the
Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the
lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusteth against
the Spirit, and the Spirit against
8
the flesh: and these are contrary
the one to the other: so that ye
cannot do the things that ye
would.
1Cor 10:13
There hath no temptation taken
you but such as is common to
man: but God is faithful, who
will not suffer you to be
tempted above that ye are able;
but will with the temptation
also make a way to escape, that
ye may be able to bear it.
Gal 6:9-10

9 And let us not be weary in
well doing: for in due season
we shall reap, if we faint not.
10 As we have therefore
opportunity, let us do good unto
all men, especially unto them
who are of the household of
faith.
Prov 10:22
The blessing of the LORD, it
maketh rich, and he addeth no
sorrow with it.
Conclusion: Reckoning
The lost world has a day
of reckoning; for a
10
Christian every day is a
day to reckon.
Rom 8:18
For I reckon that the sufferings
of this present time are not
worthy to be comparedwith the
glory which shall be revealed in
us.
2Cor 4:17
For our light affliction, which is
but for a moment, worketh for
us a far more exceeding and
eternal weight of glory;
Heb 11:25-26
11
25 Choosing rather to suffer
affliction with the peopleof
God, than to enjoy the
pleasures of sin for a season;
26 Esteeming the reproach of
Christ greater riches than the
treasures in Egypt: for he had
respect unto the recompence of
the reward.
