2. Introduction
Envertek Africa Consult Ltd was founded in 2003 and started operating as an environmental
consultancy firm in Kenya. We carry out operations in Kenya and the rest of East Africa. The firm
has also offered many consultancy services on community development issues for self-help groups,
organized institutional groups and government institutions. We are now a full-service consulting
firm providing high-quality, cost-effective environmental consulting services in Sustainable

Environmental Department
This department operates within the framework of the Environmental Management and
Coordination Act of 1999 and the Environmental Impact Assessments and Audit regulations 2003
and in line with National Environment Management Authority, which has the statutory mandate to
supervise and coordinate all environmental activities.
5. I. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
Environmental impact assessment aims at determining and presenting the environmental impacts of
a project (positive and negative) and identifying their form, realistic mitigation measures for the
negative aspects while maximizing on the positive ones. EIA involves identification of those
parameters that impact on the environment, predictions of the likely change on the environment,
evaluation of the impacts, proposal of mitigation measures, and generation of baseline data for
monitoring and evaluation and underscoring environmental issues for guiding policy formulation.
II. Environmental Audit
Environmental Audit is a systematic documentation, periodic and objective evaluation of how
activities and processes of an ongoing project or an already existing project conform to the approved
environmental management plan. EA captures activities to be audited, an indication of materials
used, final products, byproducts and waste generated, description of the activities, processes and
operations of the project, description of legislative and regulatory frameworks on ecological and
socio-economic matters, description of potentially affected ecological and social-economic matters,
a prioritization of all past and ongoing concerns, identification of environmental occupational health
and safety concerns, opinion of the efficacy and adequacy of the environmental management plan of
the project, detailed recommendations for corrective activities, their cost timetable and mechanism
for implementation, measures taken under the environmental management plan to ensure
implementation is of acceptable environmental standards and summary outlining the key findings,
conclusions and recommendations.
Physical Planning Department
This department offers services in the field of Urban and Regional Planning in line with the
Physical Planning Act of 1996 and other related laws and regulations. To mention some of the

6. Occupational Health and safety Department
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is a multi-disciplinary area concerned with protecting the
safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work or employment thereby fostering a safe work
environment. Under this category, Envertek Africa Consult has professionals who undertake:
Occupational Health and Safety Audits/Surveys
Health and safety audit/survey, are view performed to determine whether health and safety
regulations and company policies (and sometimes recognized good practice) are being adequately
implemented and complied with. Health and safety audit helps to identify, monitor and eradicate

Dr. Stanley O. Omuterema
(Environmentalist & Lead Expert, Principal Consultant)
Dr. Stanley has Ph.D. in Environmental Physical Sciences and has undertaken considerable
experience in Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Auditing and Environmental
Conservation and Management. His focal areas of specialization include physical/natural resources
impacts from industrial and anthropogenic activities. This includes land (soils), water and air
pollution and degradations. He has a substantial experience in scientific environmental research,
fieldwork, project co-ordination, report writing and communication.
Hellen Nzainga
(Physical Planner, Associate Principal Consultant)
Helen holds a Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning and a Bachelors degree in Education
(Economics and Geography) from the University of Nairobi, with over twenty years of working
experience in the area of urban and regional. She has been involved in key participatory physical
planning, socio-economic evaluations, environmental and training assignments / projects including
the on-going Kenya slum upgrading programme (KENSUP); Review and revision of the
EIA/Audits Guidelines; participation in the preparation of a Master Plan for Kenya Airports
System; Preparation of Strategic Urban Development Plan; National land policy; Kibera Urban
Environmental and Sanitation Programme (KUESP); Evaluation of Urban Livelihoods Projects in
Kenya and Uganda; Community involvement in the Meru Conservation Area; preparation of the
Regional Development Plans; Habitat II, 1996; preparation of the Kenya National Environmental
Action Plan (NEAP) and Guidelines for National Environmental Impact Assessment. At both the
national and regional level she has experience and working exposure with the informal / slum
settlements in Nairobi, Mavoko and Nakuru as well as Kampala, Lira and Mbarara municipalities,
especially as a lead evaluator of ITDGs (now Practical Action group) and Living Earth Ugandas
work with the urban poor in these municipalities. She has served as a member in the Governing
Council of the Architectural Association of Kenya, The Physical Planners Registration Board and
Kenya Institute of Planners and Board member of a Secondary school in Nairobi. On several
occasions she has been appointed as part of the Professional Examiners both for oral and written
