 Formal organization official communication along the chain of command is called formal
communication.
 This communication takes place between a superior and subordinate, subordinate and superior
and among that person in same level.
 Vertical communication flows either upwards or downwards through formal chain of command.
 The pattern of exchange of information by members of a work group is known as communication
network.
 Wheel pattern, communication flows from a person at the centre to all other members of the
group..
 In ‘Y’ pattern, some persons are closer to the person at the centre and can communicate.
 Chain pattern the persons at the end of the chain can communicate.
 Circle pattern permits each person in the group to communicate with one another.
 All channel pattern all members of the group can communicate with one another.
 Informal communication is based informal relationship between the members of the organization
 Official communication along the chain of command is called formal communication
 Informal communication is based on informal relationship between the members of the
organization.
 The workers are paid wages on the basis of output or units produced under piece rate system.
• To develop an idea about the term ‘Communication’ and enable them to classifies as formal and
informal communication and evaluate its various network channel in the both formal and
informal communication in an organization through Brain storming, Group Discussion, General
Discussion and enable students to prepare note based on it.
