Farrokh Bulsara was born in Zanzibar and raised Zoroastrian, moving to England at age 10 where he developed interests in piano, table tennis, and sketching. He later formed the band Queen with Brian May and Roger Taylor after their previous band Smile broke up, finding breakthrough success with their song Killer Queen. Freddie Mercury died in 1991 surrounded by his close friends after living a rock star lifestyle that included frequenting gay bars and having many sexual partners without protection.
