Garbage has become a serious problem in the world today. Only one out of every six water bottles ends up in the recycling bin, the rest are sent to landfills or contribute to devastating ocean pollution. Teaching children to care for the environment is a learning experience that is an important part of growing up. It gives them skills in respect, empathy, appreciation, responsibility, and teaches them about consequences. Grade 2 has been inquiring into waste and its devastating effects on the planet. Our students have been learning how each of us can help lessen the burden on the planet and save marine and land animals by recycling, reusing and reducing your overall consumption of plastic and other waste. Recycling is one of the best ways for us to have a positive impact on the world in which we live. Learning by example is one of the most important ways to discover. In an attempt to learn through doing, the students enthusiastically participated in the Best out of Waste activity. It was amazing to see the different innovative ideas the students came up with making the activity and enriching and a worthwhile experience. Theyll have a greater appreciation for the way things work, and a better understanding of our precious ecosystem.
