2. OBJECTIVES
I will be able to:
Use long a letter patterns to read unfamiliar words.
Sort words by word sound.
Explain my ideas in a group discussion.
3. Lets take out our Word Sort Chart from our AVID Binder to
review the different letter patterns that can make the long a
sound (review letter patterns)
Remember, looking at these patters can help you to sound out
unfamiliar words. Lets take a look at the following sentence:
From deep in the woods came the wound of neighing.

4. Today we are going to read Saving Yellowstone. As
you read highlight words with the long a sound and
circle words with the short a sound. After you
finish, we will work together to complete the Word
Sort Chart.
5. Lets create another Word Sort Chart like the one
we created in Lesson 8. Lets review the words we
underlined and cirecle and see where, and if, they
fit in the Word Sort Chart.
