This daily lesson log outlines the week's lessons for a 9th grade English class. On Monday, students will analyze William Shakespeare's poem "The Seven Ages of Man" by identifying rhyming words, onomatopoeic words, alliteration, assonance, and consonance. They will also discuss the different roles they have played and currently play in their lives. On Tuesday, students will further analyze the poem's meaning and message. They will also compose their own short poems using literary devices. On Wednesday, students will learn about literary devices and figures of speech, and distinguish between the two. They will analyze example poems. On Thursday, students will learn expressions used to agree and disagree, and practice dialogs using these expressions

Find out from the poem entitled The Seven Ages of Man Have the students read the example poem and analyze te literary devices used Have them answer the vocabulary words in Task 2 p.4 Have the students read the example poem and analyze the figure of speech B. Establishing Purpose for the lesson What are the expressions used to agree and disagree? Accomplish the chart given on p.14 get a partner and find out if you have similar/different answers. Think of your own heroes/idols- people who represent everything you'd like to be :parents, teachers grandparents, relatives and friends. Give their traits and attitudes that is worthy of emulation. Content/ Topic/ Skills The Seven Ages of Man by William Shakespeare The Seven Ages of Man by William Shakespeare Literary Devices and Figure of Speech Expressing Agreement and Disagreement , Importance of Capitalization and Punctuations Arrive at the meaning of words through context clues , analyze the poem read , state the theme of the poem by understanding one's life Define literary devices and figures of speech, distinguish the difference of literary devices and figures of speech.Analyze the poem read using the literary devices ,use the appropriate stress in delivering lines of poetry Determine the words in expressing agreement and disagreement , know the importance of capitalization and punctuations. Assees the knowledge in understanding the lesson as awhole and the performance in the various tasks . Prepare a Community Service Brochure Grade 9 English First
D. Discussing new concepts and Practicing New Skills Go around and interview at least five (5) classmates and find out how they perform their role in life. Use chart in Task 4 p2 Group Dynamics : Grp. 1 Spot the Rhyming Words Grp.2 Look for onomatopoeic words in the poem , Grp.3 Read the form and find the Alliteration, Assonance and Consonance. Grp.4 Read the poem and look for words that appeal to the senses Read the dialog anfd take note the words that express agreement and disagreement. Task 15 p.12 Discussing the Guidelines in planning and constructing a brochure E. Developing Mastery Look back at the roles you played before and choose the most important one for you (see Task 5 p.3) Let the students enumerate the seven ages and have them explain each stages. Presentation of the group Complete each mini-dialog with an expression of agreement and disagreement . Task 16 p.12 Answer the process question on p.15 Task 27 F. Finding practical application of concepts and skills in daily living Think of how it differs from the role you are playing now. Work on the chart on p.3 Have them answer the Reading Task 3 A,B,C. On the spot remedations Write an appropriate statement that agrees or disagrees. Use the expressions learned. Task 17 p.12 then do Task 18 with a partner Working on the outline of the brochure G. Making Generalization and Application Let the student explain in their own way about their plans that have something to do in their past experiences and their plans in the future How important is the poem's message in your life? Think of someone in real life who performed his role in effectively. Have them spot the difference of Literary devices and Figure of speech Dyads: Write a mini dialog on any of the following topics. Use expressions ,agreeing ,or disagreeing. Task 19 p.12 Use the rubric for Assessment on p.17 then complete the chart on p.18 H. Evaluating Learning Use the chart on p.3 Task 6 to rateyour understanding in the lesson as a whole performance in the various tasks. Go back to the picture of the Seven Ages of Man. At what stage are you now? Explain Have the student to compose a three to five lines poem then identify the literary device used. Share the task in the class.
