USE OF SCHOOL LIBRARIES BY TEACHERS: THE CASE OF OMAN Group 2 -Asila Alhashmi  - Hanaa Alzuhaibi -Ameera Baomar  - Bayan Alrawas
OBJECTIVE : Investigated the nature and extent of use of school libraries by teachers in preparatory and secondary schools in Oman. Evaluated the types of material and the range of services used. Teacher satisfaction with provision.
What are the characteristics of the teachers who use school libraries in Oman?   How do teachers use school libraries in Oman?   How do teachers assess the services provided by school libraries in Oman?   What do teachers suggest to develop the services provided by school libraries in Oman?
METHODOLOGY  Questionnaire  (teacher from 12 preparatory and 12  secondary school in eight administrative regions).
RESULTS OF THE STUDY Library use. Library resources. Library services. Library technology. Library education.
LIBRARY USE
LIBRARY USE More male teachers used the library daily and once a week, whilst more female teachers used the library once a month and rarely.

LIBRARY RESOURCES Male users were more likely to use books and newspapers than females.  No significant difference between the genders in using other library resources such as journals and Av/Media.
TEACHERS SATISFIED WITH THEIR LIBRARY RECOURSE  No significant differences between the genders regarding their satisfaction with the library materials. Library resources
LACK OF RECOURSES 95% indicated that their libraries had a total lack of resources(books, references, atlases and dictionaries, as well as Av/Media and journals in different areas, especially in sciences and Arabic literature Most books were old and did not meet the needs of the teaching curriculum.

WHAT ADDITIONAL SERVICES WERE NEEDED? (85%) stated that information technology and Av/Media Library services
PROBLEM First problem: did not find the material required  found the materials these were out of date. Not gaining access to the materials.
LIBRARY TECHNOLOGY (100%) had no access to computing facilities within their school libraries.
LIBRARY EDUCATION orientation programs: 73%  indicated that their libraries had not provided any orientation programs.
LIBRARY EDUCATION The orientation program the teacher need: 1-  learning skills, 2- effective use of the library  3-  the use of information technology  4- writing reports
IN GENERAL A low use of libraries by teachers in preparatory and secondary schools in Oman . why ? The shortage of library resources: print, audiovisual  and electronic materials.   The outdated library materials.   The lack of matching between the library collections and the teaching curriculum.   The lack of motivation among teachers to use information centers.
