The relationship between hair loss and
prostate cancer is vague. However, a new
report from Annal Oncology suggests a
relationship between hair loss and prostate
  cancer.
A new study at European Georges Pompidou
Hospital in Paris suggests that early hair loss
in men may show an increased risk of
prostate cancer later in life. Men who begin
experiencing loss of hair at the age of 20
have twice the risk of prostate cancer when
  they grow older.

The link could help identify those most in danger
of developing the disease the most common
cancer among men in the UK and enable them
  to be targeted for screening.
A study was conducted on 388 prostate cancer
patients from Paris and Toulouse, France, and
281 healthy volunteers with no history of
  prostate cancer or hormonal disorders.
The investigators found out that any balding at
20 years, but not at 30 or 40 years, were
associated with an increased prostate cancer
incidence later in life. However, there were no
significant associations between the pattern of
hair loss (frontal, vertex, or both) and the later
development of prostate cancer. The study did
not suggest that those who developed the early
signs of male pattern baldness would develop
  prostate cancer earlier.

   Study authors said they
    will work to determine
    whether this finding
    may help them narrow
    down prostate cancer
    screening. We need a
    way of identifying
    those men who are at
    high risk of developing
    the disease. Balding at
the age of 20 may be
    one of these easily
    identifiable risk
    factors, and more work
    needs to be done now
    to confirm this, said
    study author Dr.
    Philippe Giraud from
    the European Georges
    Pompidou Hospital in
    Paris.

The researchers said it is too soon to
conclude that early male pattern hair
loss and prostate cancer are indeed linked.
Even until now there has been conflicting
evidence about the relationship between hair
 loss and prostate cancer.
