Learning Objectives ? By the end of this lesson, students should be able to: C Describe health workers rights C Describe health workers responsibilities
Health Workers Rights 1.Access to equipment & supplies C Every health worker shall have a right to access minimum supplies necessary for patient care at all times
2. Continuing Education ? Every health worker shall have a right to career development to improve competence in patient care ? Every health worker shall have a right to continuing education in the area of specialty to improve patient care
3. Respect & dignity ? Every health worker shall have a right to be treated with consideration, respect & dignity by his/her employer, patients, guardians and the community at large
4. Working hours & rest ? Every health worker shall have a right to working hours and adequate rest periods that are clearly defined
5. Occupational health & Protection ? Every health worker shall have a right to working environment that protects the health of the worker & the patients ? Every health worker has a right to occupational health protection ? Every health worker shall have access to prompt treatment for infections acquired while discharging his/her duties
6. Professional Practice ? Every health worker shall have a right to practice professionally without hindrance and/or undue influence from patients, employers, colleagues or the community
7. Right to complain ? Every health worker shall have a right to complain through an established complaint system about violation of any of the rights stipulated above
Health workers Responsibilities 1.The worker should have the requisite professional qualifications commensurate with the requirements of the job 2.Every health worker/professional has the responsibility to be licensed with an appropriate professional body at all times and should maintain current such license 3.Comply with the ethical provisions of the profession in which they are
Cont 4. To comply with professional codes of conduct 5. To familiarize himself/herself and comply with universal precautions against infection of himself and patients 6.To familiarize himself/herself and comply with the provisions of the patients and health service providers rights and responsibilities
Cont.. 7. Conduct his/her duties in the best interest of the patient 8. Keep up to date with current developments in professional practice and update his/her professional skills and knowledge 9. Comply with the ethical requirements with respect to research/experiment on human beings
