The outsourcing trend of the past two decades has forever transformed the IT functions at most multi-billion dol-
lar companies. Today, executives are ?ne tuning the mix¡ªa little vendor consolidation here, bringing back a few
key call center functions, changing out a vendor there¡ªbut nobody expects any of these giant organizations to
reassemble large internal teams of IT employees.
Life has dramatically changed in the last few years: while initially many had thought that only access and bits of information would be subject to digital transformation, we are now facing the fact that a growing part of our own life has become digital.
Windows 7 is the newest version of Microsoft's desktop operating system, replacing Windows Vista. It aims to provide a more secure, fast and compatible experience than Vista. Key new features include improved security, speed improvements bringing it close to Windows XP performance levels, and tools to help IT support troubleshoot problems by recording steps to recreate issues. The article examines Windows 7 and alternatives such as new versions of Ubuntu and Mac OS X. It provides advice on whether organisations should consider upgrading from Windows XP or Vista to Windows 7 based on compatibility and new feature benefits.

This document discusses using social media as part of an internal communications strategy. It notes that employees are now a company's first public and that social media can improve knowledge sharing, networking, and communication both internally and with external stakeholders. However, it stresses that a strategy and guidelines are needed to properly integrate social media. Benefits include improved productivity, knowledge management, and engagement if used properly with an understanding of processes, technologies, and legal/policy implications.
1) Jane McConnell is an intranet and portal strategy consultant based in France who has created several surveys and groups related to intranet management.
2) She presented at an Enterprise 2.0 conference in 2010 where she discussed how intranets have evolved from controlled "waltzes" to more fragmented initiatives, and how governance is still a challenge.
3) She argues intranets are moving from rigid rules and control to empowering more open collaboration, though full adoption of social tools is still in early stages for many organizations.
This document discusses the new challenges of leadership in a rapidly changing context. It notes that new generations, values, working times and places are changing how people work. Leadership must rethink management approaches and embrace cultural change, new working styles using a variety of tools and locations. Meetings should focus on decision making, not just status updates. People should only be interrupted when it's useful for their work. Cloud services can make IT more agile. Connected devices and services will continue growing exponentially. Leadership must increase transparency and leverage connections beyond close networks to access the best ideas.
The document summarizes discussions from Mobile World Congress 2012 on supporting future initiatives, compatible devices, and location-based services. It also covers:
- FC Barcelona pledging support for a mobile initiative.
- US operators being ready for compatible devices.
- Foursquare revealing plans to expand location-based check-ins beyond mobile phones.
- Ericsson outlining its vision for a connected future with 50 billion devices by 2020.
- Nokia, HTC, and Foursquare debating the future of Windows Phone.
Social Communications: Delivering Winning Internal Communications Programs Wi...Prescient Digital Media
?
The document discusses best practices for implementing successful internal communications programs using intranet 2.0 technologies. It notes that while new technologies allow for more two-way communication, companies should have a plan and not just adopt tools for their own sake. Key recommendations include setting ground rules, listening to employees, partnering with IT, retaining some traditional methods, and getting executive support. Metrics, personas, use cases, and focusing on employee engagement, not just technology, are presented as important to planning a successful intranet 2.0 strategy.
The document discusses the importance of viral loops in building successful digital products and services. It outlines several key stages in designing an effective viral loop, including strategizing around the user experience flow, rapidly implementing and launching a minimum viable product to test hypotheses, and using data to continuously optimize the loop to increase user invites and growth over time. The overall goal of the viral loop is to create a persuasive experience that changes user attitudes and behaviors in a way that spreads naturally from person to person.

This document discusses the potential of social software in enterprises. It argues that while knowledge management initiatives of the past 20 years aimed to store knowledge, social software enables knowledge sharing and collaboration in real-time through informal networks. However, only 1% of users create most online content, so adopting social software requires changing an organization's culture to encourage participation. An enterprise 2.0 strategy involves integrating social tools with business processes and IT systems while gaining employee buy-in through open communication and visible executive support of new collaborative technologies.

Marshall Sponder - Social Media Monitoring Analytics - Measure13Our Social Times
?
Social media data provides both opportunities and challenges for businesses. While businesses have access to large amounts of structured and unstructured data, making sense of it and integrating different data sources is difficult. Current social media monitoring platforms do not natively interface with each other or a business's other systems. This makes it challenging for businesses to access, analyze, and take action on all of their available social data in a cost effective way. Future social networks and tools may better enable users and businesses to easily understand and utilize large amounts of social information.
This document provides updates and tips for social media marketing. It discusses setting up a content marketing program with regular blog posts. It promotes embedding videos in blogs and using Twitter to share interesting facts from reports. Mobile apps and curating factoids are also presented as ways to engage customers. An alumni company, Wirehead Technology, is featured for its curated mobility blog.

Formal Methods: Whence and Whither? [Martin Fr?nzle Festkolloquium, 2025]Jonathan Bowen
?
Alan Turing arguably wrote the first paper on formal methods 75 years ago. Since then, there have been claims and counterclaims about formal methods. Tool development has been slow but aided by Moore¡¯s Law with the increasing power of computers. Although formal methods are not widespread in practical usage at a heavyweight level, their influence as crept into software engineering practice to the extent that they are no longer necessarily called formal methods in their use. In addition, in areas where safety and security are important, with the increasing use of computers in such applications, formal methods are a viable way to improve the reliability of such software-based systems. Their use in hardware where a mistake can be very costly is also important. This talk explores the journey of formal methods to the present day and speculates on future directions.
