A child was born into a poor family in a slum and wanted to go to school but could not afford uniforms or supplies. While working in the nearby market, the child envied other kids going to school. One day, a woman named Kathy convinced the child's parents to send them to school and provided uniforms, books, and supplies, allowing the child to get an education and pursue new opportunities. The child is now excited about learning and hopes all kids get the chance to go to school.

Over one billion people worldwide live in slums, including roughly one-third of India's poor population. In Mumbai, 55% of the over 14 million residents live in slums, occupying only 6-8% of the city's land. Despite challenges such as lack of water and sanitation, 72% of Mumbai's slum dwellers are literate, and their difficult living conditions force them to be resourceful and innovative. Improving access to basic amenities and redeveloping slum areas are priorities to address the problems faced by millions of India's urban poor.

The SWWE Regional Network were very pleased to welcome Aalok Sonawala, Head of PMO, National Programmes, Rider Levett Bucknall on 26 February, to BAWA for our first face to face event of 2025. Aalok is a member of APM’s Thames Valley Regional Network and also speaks to members of APM’s PMO Interest Network, which aims to facilitate collaboration and learning, offer unbiased advice and guidance.
Tonight, Aalok planned to discuss the importance of a PMO within project-based organisations, the different types of PMO and their key elements, PMO governance and centres of excellence.
PMO’s within an organisation can be centralised, hub and spoke with a central PMO with satellite PMOs globally, or embedded within projects. The appropriate structure will be determined by the specific business needs of the organisation. The PMO sits above PM delivery and the supply chain delivery teams.

- 5. I wanted to go to school but I did not have clothes or shoes or money to buy them.
- 6. . I wanted to be like the other children who were in school and had new opportunities.
- 7. But I had to go to the nearby market to work when the big bell dinged every morning.
- 8. While at work, I loved looking at those lucky kids in their uniforms, entering schools with their back packs.
- 9. I wanted to be given a chance to create a better life.
