2. IYC 2011
All known matter gas, liquid and solid is composed of
the chemical elements or of compounds made from those
elements. Humankinds understanding of the material
nature of our world is grounded in our knowledge of
chemistry. Indeed all living processes are controlled by
chemical reactions.
The International Union of Pure and Applied
Chemistry (IUPAC) and UNESCO strongly
believe that it is time to celebrate the
achievements of chemistry and its
contributions to the well-being of
humankind.
3. Objectives of the International
Year of Chemistry
Increase the public appreciation and understanding
of chemistry in meeting world needs
Encourage interest of young people in chemistry
Generate enthusiasm for the creative future of
chemistry
Celebrate the role of women in chemistry and major
historical events in chemistry, including the
centenaries of Mme. Curies Nobel Prize
Conversation between Chemistry and Society about the future
shape of chemistry for sustainability set in the context of
chemistrys achievements
4. United Nations Millennium Goals
Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
Goal 8: Develop a Global Partnership for Development
CHEMISTRY is vital to achieving these goals!
6. Kegiatan IYC2011 Indonesia
Kegiatan dilaksanakan oleh Pengurus
Pusat HKI, HKI Cabang, Jurusan-Jurusan
Kimia, lembaga terkait Kimia (BATAN, LIPI,
dll.), dan berbagai organisasi lain
(JalanSutra, Himpunan Mahasiswa Kimia,
Responsible Care Indonesia, dll.)
Beberapa kegiatan HKI Pusat y.a.d.:
Proposal Writing Workshop, April/Mei 2011 (in
collaboration with US CRDF)
Training for Chemical Safety and Security Officer,
Bangkok, 13-17 Juni 2011 (in collaboration with Sandia
National Laboratories and US Dept. of State)
Seminar Nasional HKI, Pekanbaru, 18-19 Juli 2011

Penutupan IYC2011 dan Eksibisi, Desember 2011
8. Perhatian HKI pada Tahun Kimia
Internasional 2011
Kimia, dan Sains secara umum, dapat membantu
penguatan daya saing bangsa, penyelesaian masalah-
masalah bersama, peningkatan kesejahteraan
