Lesson plan Year 5 (Writing)

  • 1. Class : 5 Ibn Khaldun Date : 5th October 2014 Time : 10.30 a.m. 11.00 a.m. Duration : 30 minutes No. of pupils : 30 Level of pupils : Intermediate Theme : World of Knowledge Topic : Real Life Heroes Module : Writing Content standard Learning standard 3.1 By the end of the 6- year primary schooling, pupils will be able to form letters and words in neat legible print including cursive writing. 3.1.1 Able to write in neat legible print with correct spelling: (a) sentences (b) paragraphs 3.2 By the end of the 6- year primary schooling, pupils will be able to write using appropriate language, form and style for a range of purposes. 3.2.1 Able to transfer information with guidance to complete: (a) linear texts (b) non- linear texts Learning outcomes : By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to: I. Transfer 5 out of 6 information into a table correctly II. Produce a short passage of parallel writing using the correct spelling in the sentences Educational emphasis : Language content : Instructional materials : Poster, projector, pictures, word cards, task sheets, word search puzzle Previous knowledge : Pupils know about well- known people in Malaysia. Thinking Skills - Identify well- known people in the stimulus Vocabulary - courageous, founder, disasters, community
  • 2. Anticipated problem : Pupils might not know the correct spelling of the names of the people. Proposed solution : Teacher labels the pictures. Moral value : Appreciate peoples contribution.

Step Content Teaching- Learning Activities Rationale Remarks Set induction (3 minutes) Poster Topic: Real Life Heroes Questions: - Can you identify the people in the poster? - What do they work as? - Can you spell their names? 1. Teacher shows a poster of well- known people in Malaysia. 2. Teacher asks pupils to identify the people in the stimulus shown. 3. Teacher labels the people according to their names and occupations. 4. Teacher reads the labels. 5. Pupils repeat after the teacher. 6. Teacher introduces the topic. To arouse pupil curiosity To make teaching- learning interesting To recall pupils prior knowledge Resources: Poster, word cards, projector Pre- writing (7 minutes) Word cards Vocabulary: - courageous - founder - disasters - community 1. Teacher pastes a picture of a well- known people. 2. Teacher asks pupils to identify words that related to the people in the picture. 3. Teacher pastes word cards related to the people on the board. 4. Teacher reads aloud the words to the pupils. 5. Pupils repeat after the teacher. 6. Teacher explains the meanings of the words. To give input to the pupils To enable pupils to pronounce correctly Resources: Picture, word cards Writing (10 minutes) Transfer the information in the passage into table form 1. Pupils are divided into groups. 2. Teacher distributes task sheet to each group. 3. Teacher reads the instructions to the pupils. 4. Teacher shows an example on how to transfer the information in the passage into the correct space in the table. 5. Pupils are given time to complete the task sheet. 6. Teacher discusses the answers with pupils. 7. Teacher emphasizes the importance of appreciating contribution of the people to the pupils.   • 4. Post- writing (7 minutes) Short passage of parallel writing 1. Teacher shows a table of information of other well- known people. 2. Pupils read the information. 3. Teacher asks pupils to use the information in the table to produce a short passage of writing of the people. 4. Teacher checks pupils work and provides guidance if necessary. To enhance pupils understanding To enable pupils to produce a short passage of parallel writing Resource: Task sheet Closure (3 minutes) Word search puzzle 1. Teacher distributes word search puzzle to the pupils. 2. Pupils name the occupations on the task sheet and identify them. 3. Teacher concludes the lesson by emphasizes the importance of appreciating contribution of those peoples.
