Ariel is a mermaid who loves collecting human items and visiting the world above the sea. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula to trade her voice for legs so she can pursue the human prince Eric, who she saved from drowning. Prince Eric loves sailing the seas. Sebastian is a crab who is Ariel's guardian and also loves music. King Triton is Ariel's father who rules the seas but disapproves of Ariel's interest in the human world above. Ursula has pet eels named Flotsam and Jetsam and Ariel has a pet fish named Flounder who is her friend.
