Matter comes in three states - solid, liquid, and gas. Solids have a definite shape and size, liquids take the shape of their container, and gases fill their container evenly. Matter undergoes physical or chemical changes. Physical changes alter a substance's properties like shape or state, such as freezing, melting, bending, or condensation. Chemical changes create new substances through reactions like combustion or oxidation.
2. Anything we can see, touch, taste or smell is
matter.
Materials are made of matter.
Matter comes in three different
types: solid, liquid and gas
3. Solids have a shape,
size and colour.
Liquids dont have
their own shape. They
take the shape of the
container they are in.
Gases have no
shape, size or
colour. Gases are all
around us.
4. PHYSICAL CHANGES
Matter has different properties: shape, size
and state.
These properties can change. These changes
are called physical changes.
5. FREEZING
When we freeze a liquid
it becomes a solid.
HEATING
When we heat a solid it
becomes a liquid.
Change of state
6. Condensation is when liquid drops
of water form from water vapour
CONDENSATIONEVAPORATION
Evaporation is when water
changes from a liquid to a gas.
7. Change of shape
We can bend, twist, stretch, squash and press some materials.
Some materials change their shapes.
8. CHEMICAL CHANGES
Matter can react with air, water and other elements.
These reactions cause the matter to change into different matter. These
are called chemical changes.
9. COMBUSTION OXIDATION
Combustion happens when
we burn something.
Oxidation happens when metal reacts
with water or air (oxygen) and it changes
into a different matter.
