Skyhook Wireless is a company founded in 2003 that provides Wi-Fi positioning technology to determine the location of WiFi-enabled devices like cell phones and laptops. They have mapped over 18 million WiFi access points across North America and Europe to provide virtual GPS functionality for devices indoors or where GPS signals don't reach. Their new Loki Mobile product uses WiFi signals plus GPS to locate devices within 20 meters in metropolitan areas with latency of less than 1 second and 95% indoor coverage. They are working to expand their platform to more mobile operating systems and are partnering with companies to incorporate their location services.
