Momentum Worldwide - 2018: Virtual Reality’s Big Moment.
1. Virtual reality is more widely accessible and it’s predicted that by the end of
2017, 24 million households worldwide will own at least one VR device. And
the growth shows no signs of slowing down, with the expectation that it will
penetrate 77 million households by 2021. From the increasing use of VR in the
home and how it’s managed to weave itself into the simplest of experiences, such
as ordering a drink, it’s clear that there are opportunities to incorporate it into a
variety of situations. For example, 66% of hotel guests now expect VR tours.

Perhaps the biggest VR validator of late has been the recent announcement
from Facebook that they’ll debut the Venues app early next year (ability to
watch events with others via an Oculus Go VR headset). With 2.07 billion
Facebook users worldwide, we anticipate that virtual reality will truly work
itself into the mainstream, with awareness, knowledge, and sales of VR
headsets increasing. This could mean that worldwide revenues generated
by the augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) markets will climb at
least 100% annually over the next four years, going from $11.4 billion to
$215 billion.
