The release of the W3C RDF Data Cube recommendation was a significant milestone towards improving the maturity of the area of Linked Statistical Data. Many Data Cube-based datasets have been released since then. Tools for the generation and exploitation of such datasets have also appeared. While the benefits for the usage of RDF Data Cube and the generation of Linked Data in this area seem to be clear, there are still many challenges associated to the generation and exploitation of such data. We describe the NIF approach towards representing annotations and focus on roundtripping: the conversion of existing digital content from formats like Word, HTML etc. into NIF and re-integration of annotations into the original file format. Such roundtripping is needed for many industry applications of linguistic linked data and natural language processing. Roundtripping is not always possible and constrained by 1) possibilities to store annotations in the original format, while preserving existing information (e.g. HTML inline tags) and 2) constraints of the annotation model, which is basicaly tree-structured for markup languages like generic XML or HTML. There is no general solution to this problem. This webinar will introduce the Grid Edge Security and Interoperability Alliance, or GEISA, an effort within LF Energy to address application interoperability at the very edge of the utility network: meters and other distribution automation devices. Over the last decade platform manufacturers have introduced the ability to run applications on electricity meters and other edge devices. Unfortunately, while many of these efforts have been built on Linux, they havent been interoperable. APIs and execution environment have varied from one manufacturer to the next making it impossible for utilities to obtain applications that they can run across a fleet of different devices. For utilities that want to minimize their supply chain risk by obtaining equipment from multiple suppliers, they are forced to run and maintain multiple separate management systems. Applications available for one device may need to be ported to run on another, or they may not be available at all.
GEISA addresses this by creating a vendor neutral specification for utility edge computing environments.
